by Percilito C. Tillor
This year is another commemoration of the Holy Week (Semana Santa) observed by the people in the City of Bogo. In this week of April 15 - 21, 2019, the folks, parishioners, devotees and pilgrims visited Bogo City to pray and to commemorate the special celebration of the suffering, crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In order to understand why we Filipinos especially the Roman Catholics celebrated the Holy Week, we have to look back the unforgettable event during Jesus' time. As Christians, we believed that we were being saved from our sins because of the atonement of Jesus Christ. His story was told for many centuries and written in the Bible. The suffering was started during His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane - before Jesus Christ knew that He would be betrayed by one of His Apostles on the last supper. Jesus' suffering was also His mother's suffering, Mary and she was pierced by a sword. Until, the day when Jesus was crucified on the cross, all our sins were being forgiven. Even the people on other places who did not witnessed His suffering on His time on Jerusalem, they were also being forgiven by the Almighty Father and until the newest generation, His atonement was very important for all of humankind.
And after His death, He rose and His spirit went to the spirit world where He helped those poor spirits lessen their suffering as Jesus bestowed upon them His proclamation on the kingdom of God.
The Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma states, "The life of Christ brings hope. The death and resurrection of Christ brings new strength and He promised that He will be always be there within us all the time and if we could accompany on Him on our resurrection despite of all the happenings. We know His love, His grace for us until on the triumph of the resurrection."
