A CENTENARIAN FROM BOGO CITY CELEBRATES HIS 100TH BIRTHDAY

As defined, a centenarian is a natural-born Filipino who has reached one hundred years old and above, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad. In 2020 projected population of Region VII, Central Visayas, there are 957, 700 number of senior citizens aged 80 and above. 

Along the way from Bogo City, Cebu, Fruto Piega Tillor or Totong, his nickname, celebrates his 100th years of existence. He was born on October 25, 1921 at Barangay Cayang in the said city, and a son of Ramon and Lucia Tillor. He was married to Epiphania Mapait, his first wife and born a son named Eliseo and afterwards, he lost his wife. He married again to Laurencia Oplas Caayon, a native of Tambongon, San Remigio, Cebu and born with eight siblings namely(from eldest to youngest), Perlie, Perla, Percy, Pierre, Prelen, Perlita, Pruto and Percilito. Being born from a poor family of farmers, Totong learnt the way of farming as their livelihood and this manifestation transferred from one generation to another generation. In his life with his family with Laurencia, he worked hard to sustain his family and once a peasant to Ybañez family (who owned the land or farm).

He lost his wife on 2014 because of leukemia. He is a good servant of God which he had served as Catholic Lay Minister at Archdiocesan Shrine of St Vincent Ferrer, and together with his wife, Laurencia as a lector in the parish. They were active in such religious activities and they religiously give their time to serve. At his age right now, he can still partially reads, remembers, articulates Spanish terms, morsels of food by himself and partially sees.
